Do your customers need to know the carbon footprint for the food you’re supplying to them? Do you want to motivate and encourage your customers, staff, and suppliers by taking an ecologically responsible approach? Not sure how to reduce your environmental footprint or demonstrate how sustainable your product range is?

That’s right! Food accounts for 30% of CO2 emissions, whether from households, companies, or countries.

The pressure to provide environmentally oriented information is growing.

Get the carbon footprint of your products or recipes quickly

We calculate the values of thousands of products for you, in terms of their carbon footprint, land and water use.
Youmeal has a database of products that are fully documented in terms of CO2, land and water use, the threat to fish, and so on. Our data sources are based on the Life Cycle Assessment methodology: Agri-footprint, AGRIBALYSE, World Wildlife Fund, Water Footprint, and so on. Youmeal allows you to:

  • Collect data from various databases and structure and maintain it
  • Distinguish among cooked, raw, and dry ingredients, and take account of these in the calculations: removing the weight of the bones from your cuts of meat completely changes the balance sheet for them—in your favour.
  • Aggregate data according to the various levels of accuracy available
  • Estimate the impact of products that are not in the source databases. For instance, the environmental impact of tuberous parsley will be approximated by the environmental impacts of nearby products (carrots, parsnips, and so on.)
  • Automatically recognise the text of your products, such as “chicken thigh”, so you can link them to the corresponding ingredients in our own database.
  • Automatically provide a data-completion indicator: all your products will have an easy-to-identify validity seal.

Don’t wait for environmental data from your suppliers

The environmental footprint of products containing several ingredients is automatically analysed based on their specific composition. There is no need to wait for data from suppliers as part of an initial analysis.
Even the sustainability of your manufactured products is assessed. This is necessary because two products, such as sauces and burgers, can have significantly different impacts. To do this, our text-recognition algorithms analyse and understand the ingredient lists for them in depth, so they can automatically get the environmental footprint that is particular to their make-up.

What if you don’t have these lists of ingredients? Don’t worry: our database contains hundreds of thousands of data sheets, and we will certainly be able to find your product based on its barcode or its supplier references.

Rather than making strong assumptions that could influence your results and open you up to criticism, we systematically assess the accuracy of estimates. That way, efforts can be focused on products where there is genuine variability in the assumptions.

Build up loyalty among your employees, guests, and customers

Week by week, give them personalised advice based on what they have eaten and their personal goals. Get them on your side.
Youmeal offers a campaign to raise awareness about sustainable food through its mobile Youmeal app, and also on its site. Week by week, one step at a time, make consumers aware of the issues around CO2, water, soil, and fish.

The Youmeal app also makes it easy for consumers to find the recipes and sustainable products you offer, thanks to customisable filters. In addition, the app allows consumers to record what dishes they have eaten and to get tips on how to eat more healthily and more sustainably. The app means everyone can track their consumption and compare it with the preceding week and month, get some encouragement, and measure how much CO2 they have saved.

By choosing more-sustainable recipes, consumers are making a huge contribution to reducing your carbon emissions. They become loyal to your company, your restaurant, or your brand. They adhere to your values. They learn, and they feel useful in a world that everyone is trying to improve.

Work with consumers to build the nutrition of tomorrow.

Differentiate yourself from the competition and meet the requirements in the specifications

Highlight products, recipes, and menus that have the least impact.

Youmeal software automatically calculates the environmental values of your products, recipes, and menus. It automatically generates data sheets and displays environmental footprints in a clear and understandable way on your recipe and menu sheets, your various devices, and in the Youmeal app.

Get your brand’s carbon footprint, to improve your brand image

By aggregating data, Youmeal evaluates the environmental footprint at several levels such as production sites, recipes, menus, regions served, and over different periods, such as over one month, six months, a year, or more. This gives you a complete, overall, and detailed view at the same time, and it evolves over time in line with any changes you make.

Understand how to reduce your annual emissions in concrete terms

Reducing emissions by 20 or 30% will require a joint review of menus, recipes, and products. How does each of these affect your carbon footprint? Does the impact come from the quantities bought or sold, the portion size, or the impact of the product itself?
To reduce your carbon footprint significantly, you need to include consumers in your approach and review your menus, recipes, and products. A recent analysis of a real-life case shows that improving recipes can cut CO2 emissions by about 10% on average. Improving menus results in an average savings of 20%. Finally, promoting and producing recipes and products with the least impact can achieve a 30% savings. This quickly adds up to tens of tonnes of CO2 per site served.

Based on Youmeal analyses, you identify the menus, recipes, and products that you need to improve or replace in order to have a greater impact. Week after week, you understand exactly where and how to act in order to achieve your reduction targets, and you can check your progress. Youmeal even has a library of sustainable recipes to help you.

Increase your margins by increasing sustainability

Planet, health, wallet: everyone’s better off all around.

Fast and easy: send us your data in any format, or even unstructured, and we will process it.

Don’t waste time formatting your data, such as lists or quantities of ingredients used in recipes: we will do it for you.

We encode your technical data sheets or recipes, whether in Word, PDF, XLS, CSV, URL links, or any other unstructured format, thanks to our text-structuring and -recognition tool, which allows us to quickly process thousands of recipes.

You can also have special access to our interfaces for encoding and for instant verification of data sheets, so that your teams and/or your suppliers can work independently.

Finally, we automatically follow up on missing data: products without technical data sheets, technical data sheets without a list of ingredients, allergens that are not mentioned, and so on.

Save time by controlling information-sharing across your organisation

Whether you have one or more sales outlets, production centres, suppliers, or employees: information will flow in the way you want it to.
Choose which information is visible and editable by which site and by which user, as well as the access and rights of each. The software enables the sharing and transmission of information from suppliers to customers and employees. It also allows for the differentiation of production and sales sites.
